"Prayer is an aspiration of the heart, it is a simple glance directed to heaven, it is a cry of gratitude and love in the midst of trial as well as joy; finally, it is something great, supernatural, which expands my soul and unites me to Jesus."
Story of a Soul, The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, Third Edition, p. 242
Group prayer is usually understood as growing from the directive found in Matt. 18:20, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." (Women's Devotional Bible, NIV)
There are basically three types of prayer: direct or healing prayer, surround with light prayer, and prayer for those who have died/made their transition.
Direct Prayer is for those who are seeking help or for whom a person takes responsibility, such as those in a coma, too ill to request for themselves, or young children. The prayer intention of those praying is mentally directed to the individual being prayed for to help that person become more attuned and receptive, physically, mentally and spiritually. Direct Prayer is for those who have specifically requested prayer.
Surround Prayer is for those who we are concerned about, but who have not asked for our prayers. Through this type of prayer, the person is surrounded in a cushion of golden light which is available for that person’s use. It is the responsibility of the person who feels this concern to do the praying.
Transition Prayer is for helping those individual souls who are no longer in physical body form. Be sensitive to your inner guidance in requesting prayer for someone who has died.
How to Participate as Pray-ers:
FCM members and/or their ministry groups are committed to pray daily by name for one another within the FCM prayer support group and for those who have requested prayer. If you would like to participate in this group of pray-ers, please indicate your willingness on the Request for Prayer Support form. You will be contacted.
How to Request Prayer:
- Each person requesting healing prayer sends in his or her own name. An FCM member may send in other names at the request or with the permission of the person for whom prayer is requested. (If the person is too ill or in a coma and would ordinarily ask for prayer, then the one requesting the prayer may send in that person’s name as well.)
- Names are given to the FCM Prayer Support Group for prayer as received.
- The FCM Prayer Support Group will pray for the person for two to four weeks, unless the request is renewed.
- Dateline for renewing prayer requests: requests received the first through the 15th of a month will be kept in prayer for that month. Requests received after the 15th will be prayed for through the 15th of the following month.
